Onion Creek Flood Study, Austin, Texas
Hydrologic and hydraulic modeling in support of floodplain determination in flood prone area (800 residential structures in 100-year floodplain) along lower Onion Creek. Work included assessment of alternative flood control solutions including channel modifications, flood detention, flood-proofing, and buyout of flood-threatened structures. Home buyouts by the City of Austin have occurred sporadically over the years; however, in October, 2013, severe rainfall resulted in the flooding / inundation of over 500 homes in the study area.
